A new dish was served...

Osprey under glass:

The inlay that was put in place on the Osprey's deck was cleaned up and the deck was glassed. The end result is above. The various wood species really "pop" once saturated with epoxy.

Nice, huh?

Yes, very nice. It's tempting to consider one for the Mill Creek 13 I'm building. Yet, the deck on that one has a LOT of curvature and I'm not sure how far one of these inlays would bend.

Spiffy!

This inlay bent on the rear deck with ease. There is probably about a 1/2" of camber across the piece. We were not comfortable bending it on the front deck which probably had about 1-1/2" of camber across the piece. The wing started to split on the bow.

In my opinion, it probably would not have been as pleasing visually as half of the Osprey would have been visible at a time from the sides.

I'm sure it looks great in person but my eye focuses on the 90° grain pattern.

That is truly beautiful--I'm impressed...

Well, the 90° grain pattern was part of the appeal. It will look a lot better after a few more coats of epoxy to kill the weave.

The only thing I would have liked to have seen us add would have been a piece of banding that would have been a contrast to both the Cherry field of the inlay and the Port Orford cedar of the deck. This will be part of a hatch that will be cut from the deck. There will probably be some other pieces on or in the deck for bungees that will draw your eye even more!

You could have been even more impressed if we actually made the inlay, JB!
